FOR YOU GALS

GlaxoSmithKline PLC's (GSK) oral breast cancer medicine Tykerb and Roche Holding AG's (ROG.VX) Herceptin oncology drug, when used together before surgery, are more effective when combined with standard chemotherapy than either one on its own, according to new data.
Glaxo in a statement Friday said it partly-funded two Phase III studies examining the effect of Tykerb, also known as lapatinib, in a pre-surgery setting with women that had HER2-positive breast cancer.
One trial, called NeoALTTO, also showed that Tykerb when given ahead of surgery proved to be less effective than Herceptin, otherwise known as traztuzumab.
"Topline results showed the [pathological complete response] rate was 51.3% in the lapatinib plus trastuzumab combination arm compared to a rate of 24.7% for the lapatinib arm and 29.5% for the trastuzumab arm," Glaxo said. continue
